Overview

Since 2022, UOSSM has been dedicated to strengthening Ukraine’s healthcare system amidst the ongoing conflict. With a focus on capacity building and emergency response, UOSSM has provided specialized training for healthcare professionals, conducted medical missions, and built strategic partnerships to address the critical medical and humanitarian needs of the population.

Key milestones include the official registration of UOSSM in Lutsk in 2022, establishing a main office in Kyiv, and conducting extensive training and medical interventions across Ukraine through 2023 and 2024. These efforts have significantly enhanced the capabilities of Ukraine’s healthcare workforce to respond effectively in a challenging environment.

Objective

  1. Equip healthcare professionals with essential skills to enhance emergency medical response and manage crisis situations.
  2. Provide advanced surgical training to Ukrainian doctors, focusing on trauma care, anesthesia, and nursing.
  3. Deliver mental health and psychological support training to address the psychosocial impacts of war.
  4. Foster long-term strategic partnerships to sustain and expand healthcare services in Ukraine.

 

Intervention

Medical Training and Workshops

  • Conducted 18 Hostile Environment Training (HEST) courses between 2022 and 2024:
  • 11 HEST-Surgical (HEST-S) courses for 409 healthcare professionals across regions like Poltava, Zhytomyr, Odessa (2 sessions), Dnipro (2022 and 2023), Kharkiv, Zaporizhia, Lviv, Vinnytsia (2024), and Kyiv (2024).
  • 7 HEST-Anesthesia (HEST-A) courses for 165 healthcare professionals in Lviv, Zhytomyr, Zaporizhia, Poltava, Dnipro, Vinnytsia, and Kyiv (2024).
  • 1 HEST-Nursing (HEST-N TOT) course in 2024, training 18 nurses.

Medical Missions

  • In 2023, performed complex reconstructive and plastic surgeries for attack victims across seven hospitals in eastern, central, and western Ukraine.
  • Trained 40 doctors through live surgical observations during the same mission.
  • Delivered three surgical workshops for 37 doctors specializing in various fields.
  • Conducted a mental health workshop in Kyiv, 2023, titled « Medical and Psychological Aspects of War, » in collaboration with the International Academy of Personal Management.

Strategic Partnerships and Operations

  • Official registration as a local organization in Lutsk in 2022.
  • Collaborated with the Ukrainian Ministry of Health, DNF, and WHO between 2022 and 2024 to deliver specialized training programs.
  • Strengthened operations through legal, logistical, security, communication, and programmatic support.
