Overview

The UOSSM Humanitarian Mission in Bangladesh took place across several locations, including Dhaka, Uttara, Cox Bazar, and Chittagong, from January 20 to January 23, 2020. This mission was an intensive effort to address urgent needs among Rohingya refugees living in various camps across Bangladesh.

Objectives

To provide essential healthcare, childcare, and empowerment services to Rohingya refugees, ensuring access to medical treatment and supporting the well-being of women and children in refugee camps.

Intervention

The mission’s key interventions included:

Medical Camps: Establishing six medical camps within Rohingya refugee camps (Gundhum 2, Gundhum 3, Balukhali, and Jamtoli) to provide quality healthcare and access to essential medications.

Mobile Dental Services: Deploying two mobile dental buses to serve a large number of Rohingya refugees, focusing on addressing urgent dental care needs.

Childcare Centers: Creating 15 childcare centers that provide food, education, and recreation for over 3,000 children, offering safe and supportive environments.

Women’s Empowerment Spaces: Establishing women-friendly spaces to empower refugee women, with a focus on teaching sewing skills and fostering personal development.

People Served

Healthcare Services: 35,379 Rohingya refugees received essential medical and dental services.

Childcare Support: Over 3,000 children were provided with food, education, and recreational opportunities.

Women’s Empowerment: 905 women participated in skill-building and empowerment activities

Impact

The mission left a lasting impact by meeting the immediate health and welfare needs of Rohingya refugees and offering vital support to women and children, thereby fostering hope and resilience within the community.
