Our 4 years psychiatry residency programme addresses critical gaps in education and mental health resources for doctors in Syria. The programme focuses on providing continuous educational support for medical doctor providing an opportunity of residency to ensure availability of specialised doctors. It provides and enhances access to essential needs for resident doctors.
It is built on an international standards curriculum with a detailed teaching plan that can be used in the context of Syria and similar conflict-affected places. The programme offers space for practice for 8 doctors through UOSSM’s mental health hospitals and a virtual space for education through a platform developed specifically to best suit the programme. Through this platform, a dozen of expert psychiatrists provide teaching sessions.
Ensure availability of trained specialised doctors in a region where more than 5 million people have access to only one Psychiatrist. The programme is fostering a generation of empowered, trained and armed with knowledge doctors to be prepared to meet the needs and contribute meaningfully to their communities
Through well designed interventions, the programme is creating lasting, positive change to meet mental health needs in the future:
