UOSSM

UOSSM

Overview

Since October 2023, Gaza has endured severe hardships due to ongoing conflict, leaving the health system overwhelmed and countless lives affected. UOSSM’s emergency intervention in Gaza addresses the urgent healthcare needs of the population, focusing on providing essential medical services, strengthening local healthcare capacity, and easing the suffering of those most impacted.

Mission Objectives

UOSSM aims to:

  • Strengthen the healthcare response in Gaza.
  • Provide essential healthcare services to vulnerable populations in crisis.
  • Ensure that those with critical health needs receive timely and specialized care.

Intervention

To achieve these objectives, UOSSM has established robust, on-the-ground operations in Gaza:

  • Medical Units: UOSSM operates four medical units in temporary camps in Rafah and the Middle Area, bringing healthcare services directly to displaced individuals and families.
  • Primary Healthcare Services: These units offer essential healthcare services, treating a range of conditions and ensuring continuous care amidst challenging conditions.
  • Referral System: Complex cases requiring advanced care are referred to specialized facilities to ensure patients receive appropriate treatment.
  • Training for Healthcare Workers: Medical staff receive specialized training in managing non-communicable diseases, communicable diseases, and childhood illnesses, strengthening Gaza’s healthcare capacity.

Impact

As of September 2024, UOSSM’s intervention in Gaza has delivered significant support to affected populations:

  • Beneficiaries: Over 20,744 individuals have received crucial healthcare services.
  • Consultations: Approximately 23,269 consultations conducted, addressing a wide spectrum of health needs.
  • Referrals: 424 patients have been referred to specialized care, ensuring they receive the attention their conditions require.
