About Country

Pakistan faces numerous humanitarian challenges, including natural disasters, internal displacement, and the impact of conflict and terrorism. Floods, earthquakes, and other natural disasters occur regularly in Pakistan, displacing millions of people and causing widespread destruction. Additionally, ongoing conflict and insecurity in regions such as the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and Balochistan have led to internal displacement and humanitarian needs. International aid organizations, along with the Pakistani government and local communities, work to provide humanitarian assistance to those affected by crises, including food aid, shelter, healthcare, and education. However, funding shortages and access constraints often limit the scale and effectiveness of humanitarian response efforts in Pakistan.

Context in Country

The Pakistan Mission, conducted between September 15 and 18, was a comprehensive effort to address urgent humanitarian needs in various affected areas across the country, including Baluchistan, Sindh, Gilgit, KPK, Sukkhar, Shikarpur, Thul, Jacobabad, Mehr, Dadu, Jaffar Abad, District Dera Allah Yar, Haji Pur in Rajan Pur district, and South Punjab.

Led by Dr. Ahmad Al-Dbis, Director of Operations and Disaster Management Team Leader at UOSSM, and Dr. Fozia Alvi, Chief Executive Officer of Humanity Auxilium, the mission involved strategic planning meetings, visits to medical facilities, inspections of medical camps, mobile clinics, and a field hospital operated by Humanity Auxilium. The team utilized boats to reach families trapped by floodwaters, providing essential supplies such as food, sterile drinking water, and hygiene kits. Rapid needs assessments at health and humanitarian levels informed their relief efforts.

The intervention included various types of assistance, including the establishment of field hospitals and health centers, equipping mobile clinics with necessary equipment and medicines, distribution of ambulances in the most affected areas, outreach services for healthcare and reproductive health, support for need-based immunization campaigns, repairs to damaged health facilities, community awareness on health issues, including reproductive health, mental rehabilitation and psychosocial support, distribution of hygiene kits and clean birth kits, health awareness and counseling sessions, specialized medical missions (surgical or consulting), and prevention of malaria, cholera, and other epidemic diseases.

Projects undertaken during the mission included the establishment of field hospitals providing primary health care services, mobile health units, provision of birthing kits, telemedicine consultation, Zoom education sessions, and specialized medical missions. These initiatives aimed to address the immediate health needs of affected communities and contribute to long-term health resilience and well-being in Pakistan.
