A Lifeline for Gaza

Scale Of the Catastrophe

According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, over 41,600 Palestinians have been killed, with many being women and children, and 96,600 others injured. These figures highlight the immense suffering and destruction experienced in the region.

Humanitarian Access To Gaza

Humanitarian aid remains severely restricted, obstructing relief efforts. Civilians are experiencing extreme shortages of healthcare, food, and electricity. Children have missed a full year of education due to repeated shelling of schools.

Humanitarian aid, especially medical assistance, remains largely blocked. This blockade has impeded the delivery of critical supplies, leaving hospitals overwhelmed and struggling to provide basic care. Only a fraction of Gaza’s healthcare facilities are operational, and many healthcare workers have been lost due to the ongoing conflict. As a result, thousands of injured individuals lack access to necessary medical treatments, leading to preventable deaths and life-altering injuries.

Children, who are particularly vulnerable, have suffered greatly from this crisis. Many have been deprived of education and are facing severe emotional and physical trauma. The international community’s inability to ensure the safe passage of aid exacerbates the situation, as civilians continue to face extreme hardships without adequate support.

the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is a heartbreaking reality characterized by significant loss of life, especially among women and children, and the systematic denial of essential aid. The need for immediate intervention and support is critical to alleviate the suffering and provide hope to those in desperate circumstances.

Challenges in Health Services in Gaza

Israel’s blockade on humanitarian access has severely hindered aid operations. As a result, Gaza’s weakened population faces disease, hunger, and death. Services like wound care, physical therapy, and psychological support are either inaccessible or entirely unavailable, putting thousands at risk of further complications, disabilities, or even death. Gaza’s only limb reconstruction and rehabilitation center, located in the Nasser Medical Complex and supported by WHO, has been non-functional since December 2023 due to a lack of supplies and staff. Further damage occurred in a February 2024 raid.
The loss of trained physiotherapists due to the fighting has significantly hampered rehabilitation efforts. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza remains dire, with no immediate end in sight to the suffering of its people.

UOSSM Response

Training Healthcare Workers

In response to the tragic loss of healthcare workers, UOSSM, in collaboration with Caritas Jerusalem, began training medical staff on essential health topics, including the management of non-communicable diseases and childhood illnesses.

Donating to Gaza

In light of the ongoing humanitarian crisis, there is an urgent need for donations to Gaza to support relief efforts. The funds collected will provide essential medical care, food, clean water, and shelter for those affected by the conflict.
