Emergency Response for Aleppo: Help Us Save Lives

The Situation

The northern regions of Syria, particularly Aleppo and Idlib, are facing a catastrophic crisis, worsened by the intensification of military operations. From November 26 to 30, violence increased with airstrikes, artillery bombardments, and ground fighting, forcing over 20,000 people to flee their homes. As harsh winter sets in, many displaced people are living in disastrous conditions, struggling to survive without shelter, food, or adequate medical care.

Hospitals, already overwhelmed due to pre-existing shortages, are beyond capacity. The healthcare system is on the brink of collapse, and trauma cases are arriving faster than doctors can treat them. Local medical facilities, including hospitals managed by UOSSM, are facing severe shortages of medical supplies and blood. As UOSSM ambulances are increasingly targeted, medical workers continue to struggle, despite the significant risks to their lives.

They are carefully and easily manage heart surgey.

The Need Is Great

The humanitarian challenges are immense, and the need for support is urgent:

  • Vital medical supplies to treat trauma and serious injuries.
  • Units of blood for transfusions, necessary to stabilize patients.
  • Ambulances to ensure rapid evacuation and access to medical care.
  • Emergency aid for shelter and winterization for displaced families facing freezing temperatures.
  • Psychosocial support for the mental and emotional suffering this crisis imposes on families.

UOSSM’s Emergency Response

In response to this crisis, UOSSM International is providing critical care to those who need it most:

  • Trauma and Surgical Care: From November 27 to 30, UOSSM treated over 357 trauma cases, performed 94 major surgeries, and referred 207 cases for urgent care.
  • Blood Bank Operations: UOSSM collected 217 units of blood over four days, distributing 40 units to patients in need.
  • Mobile Clinics: UOSSM’s mobile clinics provided 823 consultations, offering essential services in health, nutrition, mental health, and protection.
  • Medical Staff Deployment: Over 30 medical professionals were deployed to strengthen hospitals in Aleppo, ensuring continuous care for critical patients.

Despite these efforts, the rising number of casualties, the ongoing military escalation, and the pressure on our resources show that much more needs to be done to address this ongoing disaster.
