Psychiatry Residency Programme

Overview

Our 4 years psychiatry residency programme addresses critical gaps in education and mental health resources for doctors in Syria. The programme focuses on providing continuous educational support for medical doctor providing an opportunity of residency to ensure availability of specialised doctors. It provides and enhances access to essential needs for resident doctors.  

It is built on an international standards curriculum with a detailed teaching plan that can be used in the context of Syria and similar conflict-affected places. The programme offers space for practice for 8 doctors through UOSSM’s mental health hospitals and a virtual space for education through a platform developed specifically to best suit the programme. Through this platform, a dozen of expert psychiatrists provide teaching sessions.

Project Objectives

Ensure availability of trained specialised doctors in a region where more than 5 million people have access to only one Psychiatrist. The programme is fostering a generation of empowered, trained and armed with knowledge doctors to be prepared to meet the needs and contribute meaningfully to their communities

  • Translation of essential psychiatry references into Arabic to enhance accessibility.

  • Five psychiatry books translated into Arabic, providing critical mental health insights,
  • Interactive online discussions, expert-led sessions, and articles for deepened understanding of mental health topics.
